What is an Accredited Specialist?

An Accredited Specialist is a lawyer who has been certified by the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) as an expert in the lawyer’s chosen field.

In order to achieve accreditation by the LIV, lawyers must participate in an intensive and multi-faceted assessment process that covers all aspects of legal practice.

Successful completion of the LIV’s accreditation program requires a lawyer to demonstrate both experience in and mastery of the lawyer’s area of specialty. It is a very difficult qualification to attain and it marks the lawyer as an expert in their chosen field.

Accredited specialists are obliged to undertake additional legal education on an ongoing basis and must re-apply for accreditation every 3 years.

Lorne gained his LIV accreditation as a Family Law Specialist in 2013.
